An oriented assessment on low and medium herd scale farms keeping high-production crossbred HF and pure HF cows was implemented. This survey was conducted from March to November, 2011 on 63 farms in three different regions such as Northern with 15 farms, Central with 18 farms and Southern with 30 farms. An assessment on detail rations and nutrition was conducted on 271 reproductive cows, in which 104 pure HF cows and 167 crossbred HF cows from 63 surveyed farms. Results of the survey showed that the roughages in rations were mainly planted grasses that occupied from 56 to 80 percent/DM of roughages, the natural grasses - from 16 to 29 percent and rice straw - from 3,15 to 12.73 percent, without any legumes. The mixed concentrate occupied from 72.52 to 79.77 percent/DM of concentrates. Rice bran, oil seed cake, soybean powder, com powder, cassava waste and beverage waste were used with different percentages in rations depended regions. Protein content in concentrates was only 15 to 1.,5 percent. Rations for lactating cows with 48 to 52 percent concentrates had 13.9 to 14.1 percent/DM of crude protein. Almost current rations for lactating cows lack about 5 percent of ME, about 10 percent of CP compared to NRC requirement, 1988. In order to reach 14.5-15.0 percent CP/DM in rations, CP in both roughage and concentrates have been increased. For roughages, low nutrient feedstuffs such as rice straw, elephant grass should be replaced by legumes such as stylo and alfalfa. For concentrates, rich protein feedstuffs such as soy bean powder, soy bean cake or beverage residue should be supplied. If without any high-quality roughages and just only mixed concentrate used, CP content in mixed concentrate must be increased up to 18-19 percent for high-producing lactating cows. For dry cows with the late stage of gestation, rations with 15-17 percent concentrates and 15-16 percent CP in concentrates were meet for protein and energy requirement.
