Ichthyoplankton data collected in period 2003-2013 were used to determine spawning areas and nursery grounds of fishes in Thanh Hoa provice and adjunction waters. Results indicated that the distribution of fish egg is dense from the Lach Sung to Lach Ghep and from Yen Hoa estuary of Nghi Son district (Thanh Hoa province) to Lach Quen of Quynh Luu district (Nghe An province). Fish larvea is distributed densely from Lach Sung to Hon Ne and from Lach Hoi to Lach Ghep regions. Evidence of synthetic analysis of fish egg, fish larvea and length frequency distribution of fishes from inshore to the offshore regions revealed that the spawning areas of Japanese scad and lizard fish are covered the coastal waters from the northernmost of Day river estuary to southernmost of Bang cape of Tinh Gia district. The nursery grounds of these species are concentrated from Day river estuary to Hoang Truong beach with the centre is Hon Ne island and the region from the northernmost of Ma river estuary spreading to Hai Ninh cape of Tinh Gia district. This results support basic information for determining the fisheries refugia in Thanh Hoa province and adjunction waters with objectives of maitaining the fisheries resources sustainably.
