The paper attempts to answer the question of the naming of the famous literary work "The tale of Kieu" by great poet Nguyen Du. Until now, researchers are still undecided about the original title that Nguyen Du gave to his work. In the context of the coming 250th birth anniversary of great poet Nguyen Du (1765-2015), it is necessary to restore the original title of "The Tale of Kieu" precisely and scientifically. Based on current copies of "The Tale of Kieu", the author thinks that the original title of the work by Nguyen Du was Kim Van Kieu truyen (The Kim Van Kieu), but when it was put into circulation in the imperial capital of Hue, a certain Confucian scholar willingly renamed it Doan truong tan thanh (A New Cry from a Broken Heart), which led to arbitrary naming of the masterpiece of great poet Nguyen Du. The author suggests using the original title of that poetic masterpiece, which is Kim Van Kieu truyen (The Kim Van Kieu).
