The objective of the study was to evaluate surgical outcomes of esophagectomy without thoracotomy (op. Orringer) at Viet Duc Hospital. The results showed' that 144 patients including 139 males (96.5 percent), 5 females (3.5 percent), median age 54.3 +/- 7.73 years (36 - 75). Squamous cell carcinoma encountered in 73.6 percent, adenocarcinoma in 26.4 percent. TNM stage II and III octoured in most patients (98.5 percent). The postoperative complication of the whole study was 19.4 percent, mortality rate 1.4 percent. The rate of patient long-term followup achieved 93 percent, median time of followup was 19.4 nonths (1-63). The overall 1,3 and 5 years survival rate was 62.2 percent,16.4 percent and 1.3 percent respectively: Age ( 60), FEV1 percent 70 percent and tumor staging TII,TIII were defined as independent risk factors for the presence of complication and overall survival time of patients.
