Environmental pollution and resource depletion during the second half of the 20th century gave rise to the issue of environmental protection in the process of economic development. These problems also formed the basis for the concepts of green consumption and sustainable development, with the purpose of using natural resources effectively, reducing emissions and assuring intergenerational equity. There are various, overlapping approaches to green consumption and the application of related concepts. The article presents ail overview of the conceptual development of green consumption in relation to sustainable consumption and sustainable development, in order to define the concept of green consumption and provide a basis for further research.
