Presently, accessing social capital, which is a new approach used in numerous studies on forced resettlement in social sciences, focuses mainly on the discontinuity and breakdown in various relations (among families, clans, communities), in social organizations (non-official and official) and on psychological vulnerabilities of the people forced to flee their homes to resettlement zones. Based on literature reviews of some theories and recent studies on forced migrants in resettlement zones in the world and Viet Nam, the article clarifies the role of social capital in tackling migration and resettlement issues, then, shows the shortage and gaps between the theory and practice in studying those groups' social capital.
