 A study was carried out on layers of Kabir breed (20-56 weeks old) at Phuong Lam Animal Husbandry Company Ltd. (Thai Nguyen) to evaluate the quality of eggs derived from layers fed by complete mixture feed (TAHC) or by homemade feed (TADP), and from hens kept under confined, or free-range system as well. The birds were allocated into 4 groups (50 layers per each). The experiment 1 (in 2013, from May to Oct.) included groups 1a and 1b and the experiment 2 (in 2014, from May to Oct.) groups 2a and 2b. Hens of the la, 2a groups were kept in a confinement system (5birds/m2) and of the 1b, 2b were under free-range condition (under trees, 10 m2/bird). Groups la, 2a, 2b were fed with TAHC, meanwhile group 1b with TADP including corn, soybean, rice bran and chopped vegetables. The results revealed that hens fed T ADP owned darker egg shell, higher 1.2-1.7 percent more in yolk ratio, better middle albumen height and the Haugh unit, higher 1.0-1.2 percent more in lysozyme concentration in whites, lower 0.9 percent in yolk lipid ratio as compared to the TAHC group. In addition, there were some unfavourable existences, i.e. thinner egg shell (leading to a lower shell strength), paler yolk color and lower approximately 25 mcglg in vitamin E
  The eggs laid by hens fed the same feeds gave the higher egg shell ratio, better egg shell quality, darker egg shell color, higher 0,2l,3mm more in middle albumen height, higher 10.2 units more in Haugh units (at 52-56 weeks old), higher 0.1-0.12 percent more in albumen lizozyme concentration (experiment 1) and higher 0.09-0.10 percent more in albumen lizozyme concentration (experiment 2) in groups kept under free-range as comparing to confined system. There were some restraints, i.e. higher in albumen ratio (52-56 weeks old), higher in egg shell ratio and lighter in egg yolk color. Meanwhile other characreristics were as similar as those of eggs laid by confined hens.
