This article supplies main methods teachers can use to teach meanings of words. The methods used in teaching word meaning in the bilingual classroom are literal translation through mother language, direct method, total physical response and definition of word meanings. Teachers can also assist students with specific techniques and practice in contextual guesswork. Guided discovery involves asking questions or offering examples that guide students to guess meanings correctly.
