Phytochemical investigation of the methanolic extract of the soft coral Lobophytum compactum led to the isolation of three sterols, 3 beta, 11-dihydroxy-24-methylene-9, 11-secocholestan-5-en-9-one (1), (24S)-ergostane-3beta, 5anpha, 6beta, 25-tetraol 25-monoacetate (2), and (24S)-ergostane-3beta, 5anpha, 6beta, 25-tetraol (3), and two glycerol derivatives, batilol (4) and chimyl alcohol (5). Their structures were identified by spectroscopic methods including ESI-MS, I D- and 2D-NMR in comparison with the literature values.
