Determining methane content in coal seams is one of the most important tasks for evaluating the risk levels of methane gas and then, providing the reasonable preventive measures for the explosion hazards. The paper introduces some key achieved results on the determination of the methane bearing capacity in the coal seams in 2011 in order to classify the coal mines to the methane gas bearing capacity.
