 High strength sugary wastewater was continuously treated in a lab-scale VASB reactor operated at 37oC for 440 days. Optimal values of various operational parameters such as nutritional ratio in the wastewater
  concentration of volatitle faty acids (VFAs)
  pH
  hydraulic retention time
  and organic loading rates were investigated and recommended in order to achieve a high treatment efficiencies. Biogas and excess sludge arisen from treatment process were investigated in both quality and quantity. The microbial structure of the granular sludge was elucidated.
