In the context of fast urbanization and industrialization, the agricultural land has been being declined (about 70.000 ha/yearly) while demand for agricultural products in urban area has increased dramatically. This requires the restructuring of agricultural production toward urban demand-oriented agriculture along supply chain that links of production processing logistics and storages distribution, trade research and development. This modern model of agricultural production is known in a number of countries in the world as Agropark. This paper reviews theories of agropark and the development of agropark models in the world and Viet Nam as well as assesses conditions required for establishing an agropark area in Thai Nguyen province. This agropark will be located in Pho Yen and Phu Binh district and will be a green city model with a combination between agriculture, industry and services. This agropark is designed to produce a large volume of products to meet high demand for agricultural products and serves for urban population. Yen Binh will be a complete model of the high-tech agriculture and as a new direction for agriculture and rural economy of Thai Nguyen province in particular and of Vietnam in general.
