Staphylococcus aureus is the cause of many different infections from minor skin to life-threatening infections, especially opportunistic infections. Determination of carriage prevalence and carrier status plays an important role in the study of sources and prevention of the diseases. The study was carried out to determine carriage prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus in nose and hand of staffs working in restaurants in Hanoi. Results show that overall carriage prevalence of S. aureus in nose and/or hand was 25.2 percent, and it was 19.4 percent and 14.6 percent in nose and hand respectively. The difference of prevalence carriage was statiscially significant, with p 0.05. 3.9 percent was classified as persistent carriers. In conclusion: Overall carriage prevalence of S. aureus in nose and/or hand was 25.2 percent, and it was 19.4 percent and 14.6 percent in nose and hand respectively, persistent carriage prevalence was very low.
