In the implementation of the National Target Program on Rural Water Supply and Sanitation in the phase II (NTP2) with the aim at attaining 85 percent of households using clean water and 70 percent of those having hygienic latrines in 2010, the organizational system and workforce in Rural Water Supply and Sanitation sector have incessantly developed in the quantity nationwide. In order to have basis for development of plan for integration of rural water supply and sanitation with HIV/AIDS control and prevention for the workers who are working in particular environment, a study on the knowledge of the workers in this field on HIV/AIDS prevention and control was conducted. The results showed that: 1/ The proportion of respondents who was aware of high risk target groups was low. There was still a remarkable number of workers did not know that blood test is the only way to identify a person infected HIV. 2/ The knowledge workers in rural water supply sector on the prevention methods of HIV transmission was not sufficient. The prevention methods of HIV transmission from HIV infected persons were not known widely. 3/ Only three sexual transmitted diseases known by the most respondents were HIV/AIDS. syphilis and gonorrhoea. More than a half of interviewees were not able to tell any syptoms of STDs. Nearly 70 percent of respondents knew correctly about the persons who need a treatment when having sex with people infected with STDs.
