From May/2002 to May/2007, the authors had operated the endoscopic variceal ligation in 162 patients having liver cirrhosis with esophageal variceal bleeding (Esophageal variceal - EV). The results show that: good effect in hemostasis made up of 92.6 percent, the percentage of good, average and bad effect in eradication are 63.7 percent, 24.6 percent and 11.7 percent, respectively
the proportion in rebleeding under 1 month, within 1-6 months, 6-12 months and more than 12 months are 5.0 percent, 9.5 percent, 12.9 percent and 17.4 percent, respectively. There is no fatal side-effect after the variceal ligation. The most common symptom is chest pain, which makes up of 52.2 percent. Other accompanied side-effects are temperature (4.4 percent), pneumonia (1.1 percent), oesophagus ulcers (2.2 percent), they only last for one or two days and adapt to internal medicine.
