Purpose: Evaluate the results after 3 months of pars plana vitrectomy high-speed in the treatment of vitreous fibrosis. Method: This study comprised 40 patients (41 eyes) with vitreous fibrosis undergoing pars plana vitrectomy high-speed at the Ophthalmologic Department of Hospital No.108 from 2009 to 2010. Visual acuity tests, intra and postoperative complications were analysed. The follow-up was 3 months. Results: Vitreous fibrosis improved in 70.7 percent of the patients within the first 2 weeks postoperatively. After 3 months, vitreous fibrosis was further improved in 90.2 percent and worsened in 2.5 percent. Improvement of visual acuity, 29 (70.73 percent) eyes were categorized as improved, 10 (24.39 percent) eyes were categorized as unchanged, and 2 (4.88 percent) eyes were categorized as deteriorated. Post-operative complications, cataract 10 (24.39 percent) eyes, Macular damage 5 (5.9 percent) eyes, Retinal detachment 2eyes (4.88 percent), Vitreous hemorrhage geyes (7.3 percent). Conclusions: Vitrectomy has been used to treat various vitreoretinal diseases. It still remains a demanding procedure requiring a skilled and experienced surgeon, despite advances in surgical instrumentation and techniques.
