The cross-sectional descriptive study conducted in July 2011 aims to assess knowledge and practice on handwashing with soap of the children aged 6-15 in 15 Unilever projects supported communes in the Northern Vietnam. The results show that: 25.4 percent of surveyed subjects could name at least 3 diseases caused by unclean hands
.73.8 percent knew correctly about effects of handwashing with soap which is to eliminate germs/prevent diseases
the survey children knew the necessity of handwashing with soap before eating (91.5 percent), after defecating (91.8 percent) and after urinating (50.8 percent). The proportions of children practiced handwashing with soap at the above 3 points of time were respectively 54.9 percent, 14.8 percent, 63.2 percent. Most of them knew and practiced the first and sixth step among the six steps of handwashing with soap.
