The cross-sectional descriptive survey on the knowledge on safe motherhood of 277 village health workers of 14 Northern mountainous and Central Highlands provinces. The results show that the rate of village health workers (VHWs) knowing the danger signs for pregnant women was low
the signs named by respondents the most are the bleeding and abdominal pain while pregnant (60.6 percent and 56.7 percent, respectively)
8.3 percent of VHWs did not know any signs. The rate of VHWs knowing danger signs for women during delivery was very low, except for the sign of bleeding (59.9 percent)
the remaining were reported by less than 30 percent of them
19.1 percent of the respondents were not aware of any signs. The knowledge of VHWs on danger signs for women after delivery was very limited, only the sign of bleedingwas named by 75.5 percent of them, the remaining were named by less than one third of the respondents
11.2 percent of respondents did not know any signs. The knowledgw of the VHWs on danger signs for newborns was also very limited
