Due to the negative effects of the recent financial crisis and public debt crisis in Europe today, the process of restructuring the economic system in general and the finance and banking system in particular to address the shortcomings of the systems has been implemented globally and drastically. Vietnam banks in recent years have strongly grown in terms of both quantity and quality of service but they have also revealed many shortcomings. The restructuring of Vietnam's banking system is necessary for its sustainable growth. It also helps create the opportunities to attract major international banks and strategic investors to become the shareholders of Vietnam banks, and thereby helps modernize Vietnamese banking system.
