The study aims at identifying factors affecting safe vegetable production and consumption in Thua Thien Hue province. The study was conducted during 2010-2011 in Thua Thien - Hue province. Information analyzed in this study were collected from related departments at commune and provincial levels: Kim Thanh and Quang Tho cooperatives
interviewing 161 households in Tay Loc and Thuan Hoa wards, small traders at markets and staff of the two wards. Results show that safe vegetable productivity is about 15-30 percent lower than traditional vegetables, more risky and more labor intensive. However, about 80 percent of safe vegetable productivity were sold at local markets with the normal price. Main factors hindering the production and consumption of safe vegetables in the the study area were limited awarenes of consumers on safe vegetables
lack of information on safe vegetables
and inconvinient of sale locations. To promote safe vegetable production and consumption, the following recommendations should be considered: (i) improve awareness on safe vegetables for consummers
(ii) develope marketing chanels and provide adequate information on safe vegetables for consumers
(iii) officially identify department or organisation in charge of controlling of safe vegetables' quality
and (iv) widen market chanels of safe vegetables to convinient places for consumers out of supper market systems.
