Cassava is infected by a serious disease named cassava witches' broom (CaWB). Phytoplasma was detected only in CaWB-symptomatic plants with round or oval shape. An amplicon with approximately 1.2 kb was detected using nested-PCR with universal primers pair. The RFLP profile suggested that all the samples were infected by the same phytoplasma. Phylogenetic tree indicated that four CaWB isolates. Brassica napus phyllody, and Sesamum indicum phytoplasma belong to group 16Srl (aster yellows group). According to our knowledge, this is the first report on the molecular characteristics of cassava phytoplasma in Southern Vietnam.
