Urinary tract infections (UTI) are one of the most common infections in children. Some studies revealed that UTI was the third ranks illness after respiratory and digestive infections. UTI in young children are often atypical symptoms so it was easily missed or diagnosed late. Aim: To study some epidemiological characteristics, clinical features of urinary tract infections in hospitalized children. Methods: The retrospective study described 120 medical records of patients with UTI in urinary kidney Department in the National Pediatrics of Hospital during the period from 01/01/2008 to 31/12/2009. Results: Boys (64.2 percent) were more common than girls (35.8 percent). UTI was frequently seen in children under 2 years old (84.4 percent). UTI appear often in the periods from March to July and from October to December of the year. Fever were often seen (85 percent), followed by urinary trouble (72.5 percent). Gastrointestinal symptoms appeared up to 18.3 percent. Conclusion: The most frequent symptom in UTI was fever but it is not specific, gastrointestinal symptoms were commonly seen in young children, sometime it was principal symptom in clinical picture, making failure direction of physician diagnosis.
