Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease, with the increasing trend especially in children, the disease causes a large impact on quality of life of patients, their families and society. Objective: Assess knowledge of parents of pediatric patients with asthma about the characteristics of asthma, treatment, prevention of asthma before and after counseling. Methods: prospective study intervention by interviews and observation skills bronchodilators spray and prevention of 92 parents have a child with asthma who were treated in pediatric respiratory department of SaintPault hospital from 1/3/2010 to 30/9/2010. Results: The rate of parents knowing: asthma is a chronic airway that increased after consulting (74.3 percent) to compared with the previous consultation (45.7 percent) (p 0.05)
know about symptoms of disease clearly increased after counseling (85.7 percent) compared to the previous consultation (60.0 percent) (p 0.05)
Knowing that asthma can control is also increased from 57.1 percent in prior consultation to 75.7 percent after counseling (p 0.05) Similarly, the percentage of patients parents knowing about preventive measures for children with asthma has increased from 15.7 percent in previous consultation to 57.1 percent after counseling (p 0.05). Conclusion: Advice about asthma is very necessary and important jobs to improve the status of treatment and prevention of asthma and also to improve the hospitalized severe asthma situation.
