 Multidrug-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii infection is prevalent in Bach Mai hospital. Examining the epidemiology, especially at the Intensive Care Unit (lCU), is an important initial step to develop infection control measures. Objective: To reveale the epidemiology of Acinetobacter baumannii infections in the ICU of a tertiary care hospital in Northern Vietnam. Methods: 4.124 Acinetobacter baumannii strains isolated from specimens of patients in Bach Mai Hospital from 01/01/1.996 to 31/12/2010. Patients admitted to the ICU of Bach Mai Hospital were surveyed from September 2009 to May 2010. Results and conclusions: The rate of Acinetobacter baumannii isolated in ICU were 30.0 percent - 81.3 percent. The rate Acinetobacter baumannii were isolated from sputums and bronchial fluids 36.9 percent - 100 percent. The rate of Acinetobacter baumannii resistance to antibiotics from 2006 to 2010: Cephalosporin was 67.8 percent -76.4 percent
  imipemem was 39.0 percent - 60.8 percent
  ampicillin+sulbactam was 42.6 percent - 51.1 percent
  amikadn was 59.9 percent - 65.3 percent
  ciprofloxacin was 65.4 percent - 74.4 percent. The rate of pandrug resistance Acinetobacter baumannii were 27.0 percent - 43.9 percent.
