Glutathione is a tripeptide composed of the 3 amino acids (glycine, glutamate and cysteine). Glutathione has been called the "master antioxidant". In addition to its own potent antioxidant power, glutathione helps to recycle other antioxidants such as vitamins C and E. Thus, glutathione can help us to protect against diseases caused by oxidative damage. Glutathione also plays an important role in the regulation of immune cells, and is a potent detoxifying agent. GSH helps protect the mouth and salivary organs from periodontal disease, stomatitis and gingivitis and the esophagus from inflammation. In the stomach, it protects against gastritis, peptic ulcer and cancer in the liver, hepatitis and organ failure. GSH also defends the pancreas against inflammation and the large intestine (bowel) against colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease and cancer. People with a glutathione deficiency may be supplemented glutathione by intervenous injection (POMULIN) or oral intake (POMULUS.)
