Background: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a common disease, however, the gold diagnostic criteria has not been established
the abnormality of gastroesophageal flap valve (GEFV) was demonstrated to have association with GERD. Objectives: to classify GEFVaccording to Hill grade in patients with GERD and to investigate the association between GEFV grades and esophageal erosions assessed by Los Angeles Classification. Patients and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study conductedfrom Oct 2010 to Mar 2011 on 103 outpatients (44 males, 59 females), ages from 18 to 85 (mean 40.85 + or - 12.81), who have been interviewed due to the same medical record and undergone endoscopy to evaluate esophageal injury due to Los Angeles Classification and GEFV according to Hill grades. SPSS was used to analyze data. Results: nearly 37 percent of patients had abnormal GÊFV. 45 percent of erosive esophagitis cases had abnormal GEFV, GEFV was shown to have association with erosive esophagitis (Chi-square 7.778, p 0.05, r
