 Objective: To evaluate the clinical features of eye trauma due to foreign body, to propose management protocols for different types of foreign body and to summarize functional outcomes of current treatment protocols. Materials and methods: Des cviptive and clinical intervention study was performed on 19 patients at the Department of Ophthalmology, Cho Ray Hospital from January 2008 to May 2010. There is no control group available in this study. Results: Subjects include 15 males and 4 females with 13 patients being less than 30 years of age.   7 patients only sought care upon complications. Two patients who presented with foreign bodies of organic material had previously received care at various other medical centers but incomplete removal of the affected foreign bodies had resulted in severe complications. Medical interference was not required in 5 cases with inorganic foreign bodies at profound positions with no local or general complications reported. Six patients lost their vision with 5 being immediately after the trauma. One patient died of brain abscess. Conclusion: Eye trauma due to foreign body is diversified and complicated. Patients should receive antibiotics treatment immediately. Foreign bodies of organic materials should be removed. Other cases should be followed and managed depending on position of the foreign body and patient condition with special caution to foreign bodies penetrating deep.
