During five years (2006-2012), a great success has been meaningfully recognized to reduce brown planthopper (BPH) damages and virus diseases transmitted by BPH to rice crops through ecological balance management in Mekong delta. Accordingly, BPH control by chemicals has only offered low success, it always enhanced the BPH outbreaks due to pesticide misuse or overuse. Beside that, excessive nitrogen fertilizer applications, highly cropping intensification have caused the worse situation. Based on ecological engineering measures such as IPM, 'Three Reductions-Three Gains", "One Must-Five Reductions", the integration impacts have made rice production better, helped escape the BPH migration.
