Sedative properties of Sleepy Care capsules (a combination of L-theanin, melatonin, valerian extract, common hops extract) was experimentally investigated by various models. Sleepy Care displayed, in a dose-dependent manner. muscle relaxant activity (Grip strength test), anxiolytic activity (elevated plus maze model). hypnotic activity (potentiation of thiopental sleeping time) and CNS depression activity (at high doses, antagonism of strychnine-induced convulsions). Valrian extract was the most potent component, which increased open arm entries and the time spent on the open arm in EPM, prolonged thiopentalinduced sleeping time. All together, these results provided experimental evidences for the use of Sleepy Care as complementary in treatment of sleep disorders.
