This study explores whether infectious diseases increased after the 2010 flood in the district most affected by the flood. Methods: records of patient consultations at Hung Nguyen district hospital (DH), Nghe An province in the period starting three months before and ending three months after the flood were analyzed. Results: No epidemics were reported after the flood. An increase in patient consultations occurred rapidly after the flood. The number of patient consultations during the three months after the flood was 1.9 times higher than the numbers during the three months before the flood. The most common causes for seeking health care include: acute diarrhoea, respiratory tract infection, influenza syndrome and conjunctivitis, with an increase of 2.7 times, 2.0 times, 2.2 times and 1.5 times respectively. Patient consultations among children under 5 years was highest (211.8/1000), followed by the age group 50-69 years old (101.3/1000)
5-9 years old: 94.8/1000 and 60 and over was 89.5/1000. More females visiting the district hospital during both the three months before the flood (p 0.01) and after the flood (p 0.05).
