Michelia mediocris Dandy. is a native tree species, broadleaf evergreen with high value in tenns of economic, social and environment, thus it is one of the main species of plantation in many localities in the years through in Vietnam. However, the establishment of new plantation is not much, because up to now, scientific basis of physiological, ecological characteristics to propagation of seedlings and forest planting techniques are still lacked. Therefore, the study on physiological, ecological characteristics of seedling in the nursery stage is essential, especially light and fertilizer requirements. The results of study show that during first 4 months period from begin to sow seed, the seedling grows well with a shading of 50 percent being the best, but during its 5-6 months of age, the seedling grows well with appropriate shade of 25 percent and at its 7 months of age, can remove the shade frame completely to assist with adaptation to the new conditions for seedling some days prior to planting. After seedling sowing in the nursery, top dressing by dilute mixture of organic fertilizer or NPK (5:10:3) with water at a rate of 5 percent, a dosage of 2 liters/1m2 row being the best. With its light regime and top dressing with fertilizer as described above, after 8 months seedling are in the nursery, seedling should have matured and have root diameter greater than 0.6 cm, height greater than 25 cm and they can be transplanted out. Depending on seasonal planting in a particular region or planting methods may nurture seedlings in the nursery to 12 months. Depending on planting season in each region or planting methods, seedling can be in the nursery until 12 months of age.
