Malaria is spread from person to person by female Anopheles spp mosquitoes. It is also transmitted through blood transfusion, injection (drug) and mother-to-child transmission due to injuried placenta (rarely) (2). In Vietnam, although the National Malaria Prevention Programme has obtained great achievements, there has been no research on the issue of malaria in infants (including case reports). This prevents physicians from'making decisions about diagnosis and determination of the appropriate treatment regimen. A case of 12-day-old patient infected with Plasmodium vivax was diagnosed and successfully treated at Cu Jut General Hospital, Cu Jut district, Dak Nong province in November 2012. For the purpose of contributing evidence of malaria infection in infants from which encouraging specialized scientists to carry out further study, the authors investigated the epidemiological factors related to the case, admission process, clinical characteristics, treatment responses and follow-up treatment for this patient.
