Objectives: to study clinical, radiography and the management of complications of foreign bodies in the esophagus. Patients and methods: 46 patients diagnosed with complications of foreign bodies in the esophagus including 30 patients with periesophageal abscess and 16 patients with esophageal abscess. The authors conducted a descripitve prospective study. Results: Most of patients were 16-40 year old. All of foreign bodies are animal bones. The common symptoms include: fever, disphagia, odynophagia, foreign bodies sensation, excessive salivation. Neck radiograph depicts a thick tisue and level air-liquid in front of the cervical spine, loss physiological curvature of the cervical spine, low proportion of radiopaque object. the authors were treated by endoscopic removal, drainage abscess and combined use of broad-spectrum antibiotics and anti-anaerobic. Conclusion: esophageal abscess and periesophageal abscess is common and dangerous complications. Treatment should be quickly endoscopic removal, drainage abscess and combined with intensive medical treatment.
