Introduction: Recently, treatment of multiple myeloma (MM) achieved strong development which improved long-term survival and quality of life. This research aims to assess results of autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation for multiple myeloma at Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital (BTH). Methods: Prospective case series study from January, 2012 to March, 2013 in Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital, Ho Chi Minh city. Results : Twelve patients with MM who had autologous peripheral' blood stem cell transplantation were analyzed. High dose Melphalan (200 mg/m2) was used for conditioning. All patients received induction therapy with Bortezomib+Dexamethasone before transplant (range 3 - 5 cycles). Patient's median age was 50,3 years. Three patients underwent unmanipulated transplantation (2 patients with HBV, 1 patients with syphilis) and 2 patients underwent tandem transplantation. Mean number of mononuclear and CD34+ was 10,5 x 10 exponent 8 /kg and 8,7 x 10 exponent 6 /kg. Median time for engraftment was 10 days. Febrile neutropenia, diarrhea, mucositis were the common toxicites. The post-transplant CR response rate was higher than pre-transplant (83,3 percent compared with 41,7 percent). Conclusion: The study achieved good initial results and the authors can used this autologous peripheral stem cell transplantation for multiple myeloma patients broadly.
