Objectives: investigate the causes and some epidemiologic characteristics of acute hepatitis in children. Methods: Retrospectivestudy 73 patients from 1 months to 15 years of age with acute hepatitis, in Infectious Departement - National Hospital of Pediatrics in 2 years 2011 and 2012. Results: acute viral hepatitis 73.5 percent (53 percent due to HBV, 29 percent due to CMV, 9 percent due to HCV, 3.6 percent due to HAV, 3.6 percent due to EBV 1.8 percent due to Rubella)
rare cases of toxic hepatitis (1.4 percent) and auto-immune hepatitis (1.4 percent)
no metabolic disorder hepatitis was found. Additionally, a0Jte hepatitis due to toxoplasma 1.4 percent, acute hepatitis due to tuberculosis 1.4 percent and unknown causes 19.1 percent. Acute Viral Hepatitis was predominant in children under 1 year
most of which were caused by CMV. Acute hepatitis due to HBV was mainly found in children from 1 month to 5 years. Among B type acute hepatitis, 1/4 of patients's mothers are positive with HbsAg, most of whom, acute hepatitis start at under 1 year (71.4 percent). 1/4 acute hepatitis lead to fulminant hepatic failure, in which 27.8 percent with hepatic coma. Mortality rate in fulminant hepatic failure is high (1/3), most of which the cause was B type acute hepatitis, no death case was found with CMV cause.
