The first case of organ transplantation (Tx) in Vietnam was successfully performed in 1992 in Hospital 103, Military Medical University. Until 2012, nearly 700 cases of kidney Tx have been carried out in 12 hospitals, 29 cases oj liver Tx in 5 centers and 7 cases of heart Tx in 3 hospitals. The results of organ transplantation in Vietnam were promising for treatment of end-stage organ failure and push up development of other medical specialities. In recent years, the organ transplantation has been remarkable improved and innovated. Improvements in patient and donor selection, surgicalprocedures and post-transplant management are required to achieve optimum outcomes for graft function and health of patient. Increasing of organ donation (especially from brain death patient), communication and capacity of organ Tx centers will gain quickly the number of organ transplantation in Vietnam to improve taking care of health for people.
