There are two major worshipping ceremonies held in village communal houses in Southern Vietnam, which are vernal ceremony (praying for prosperity and pacification, solemnly organized) and autumnal ceremony (shrine ritual), known as the "spring and autumn ceremonies" to express the meaning of constant incense-smoke around the year. Besides, in some communal houses, apart from these major ceremonies, another ceremony is solemnly held every three years, called "returning of sacrifice ceremony for prosperity and pacification". Particularly, the dates of worshipping ceremonies in Southern Vietnam are different due to the deliberate arrangement of the organizers so that the villagers, including officials and "Vietnamese opera" troupes can attend in various places. As a result, every village communal house's sacrifice ceremony attracts a crowd of people. It fully expresses the significance of respecting and preserving the national unique cultural characteristics. The communal house's ceremony in An Giang, in both contents of festival and ritual, is generally similar to other places in Southern Vietnam, clearly manifesting the activities of rural agricultural life. However, there are still noticeable characteristics in performance.
