The objectives of this study were to analyse genetic polymorph isms of candidate genes associated with meat quality in indigenous pig breed of Mong Cai and exotic pig breed of Yorkshire. For this purpose, the polymorphisms of LpinI gene, heart fatty acid-binding protein gene (H-FABP) and melanocortin receptor 3 gene (MC4R) were genotyped in 150 pigs by PCR and PCR-RFLP methods. For LpinI gene, the polymorphic sites were found both in Yorkshire and Mong Cai. The frequencies of favourable allele C in Yorkshire and Mong Cai were 0.71 and 0.995, respectively. The expected heterozygosities were much different between Yorkshire and Mong Cai and were 0.41 and 0.01, respectively (p 0.01). Regarding H-FABP and MC4R genes, the polymorphism was found in Yorkshire and the frequencies of favourable allele a at H-FABP and A at MC4R were 0.13 and 0.85. The expected heterozygosities at these loci were 0.23 and 0.26, respectively. In pig breed of Mong Cai, there were no polymorphism and only the homozygote AA and GG were lound at H-FABP and MC4R. The comparision of the polymorphisms of candidate genes associated with meat quality between indigenous breed of Mong Cai and exotic breed of Yorkshire revealed that the expected heterozygosity (He) and polymorphism information contenel (PIC) of candidate genes LpinI, H-FABP and MC4R were higher in the exotic pig breed than in the indigenous breed (p 0.01). The results reported here offer an interesting description of the genetic polymorphism of the candidate genes associated with meat quality in indigenous and exotic pig breeds. Further study the relationship of genetic variations of candidate genes with meat quality traits should be taken into consideration to evaluate potential use of genetic markers in marker-assisted selection.
