Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics of pancreatic pseudocysts and evaluate the treatment results. Subjects and Methods: Retrospective study on 120 patients diagnosed with pancreatic pseudocysts treated at the Surgical Department of Bach Mai Hospital from 2002 to 2012. Results: Patients characteristics: male (59.2 percent) and female (40.8 percent). Age ranged from 18-86 (average: 35.7 + or - 13.8). Clinical symptoms: abdominal pain (100 percent), palpable mass (53.3 percent). Caused of the pancreatic pseudocyst: acute pancreatitis (50.8 percent), chronic pancreatitis (12.5 percent), trauma (26.7 percent), gallstones (4.2 percent) and unknown (25.8 percent). Evaluate the treatment outcomes: Treatment options drainage (13.3 percent), pseudocystogastrostomy (17.5 percent), cysts resection (11.7 percent), Roux en Y pseudocystoduodenostomy and pseudocystojejunostomy (57.5 percent). Complications: 9.16 percent included wound infection (5.8 percent). Treatment results: good (83.34 percent) as no complications, moderated (5.8 percent) as mild complications and bad (10.8 percent) with severe complications. Conclusion: Pseudocysts is a common complication of acute pancreatitis. These cysts rarely resolve themselves and the complications increase with time. Therefore, a timely appropriate surgery indication will be benefit for the patients. Among the surgical indications, the Roux en Y pseudocystoduodenostomy and pseudocystojejunostomy were safe and had the best outcomes.
