 Objectives: to evaluate the effectiveness of tonsillectomy under oral endotracheal anesthesia, recommend some appropriate choices - the first step to create an anesthetic regimen orally for tonsillectomy applied in Binh Phuoc province. Methods: a cross-sectional description was conducted on 147 patients in tonsillectomy under oral endotracheal anesthesia in Binh Phuoc General Hospital from January to December of 2011. Results: most of patients were over 16 years old (71.43 percent). ASA I patients accounted for 95 percent
  ASA II patients occupied 5 percent. Endotracheal intubation conditions were excellent and good in 85 percent of patients. The clinically effective duration were 13.9 minutes in fentany/propofol group and 16.7 minutes in fentany/etomidate/foran group. Anesthesia was induced with profopol 2-2.5 mg/kg
  patients were successfully resuscitated very convenient for short-duration and medium-duration surgery. The surgery took over 20 minutes in 80 percent of adult patients with atrophied tonsils or pus-containing cavity. Conclusions: tonsillectomy under oral endotracheal anesthesia is highly effective in term of clinical treatment can reduce complications as well as strictly respect principles of anesthesia practice. Extubation is safely performed after complete resuscitation.
