To evaluate the sedative, analgesic and indesirable effects of dexmedetomidin in post-surgical cardiac patients, a RCT was conducted in 60 pts under either dexmedetomidin or midazolam-based sedation. The variables of sedation, analgesia and adverse effects wered analysed around extubation and 24 hours afterwards. The results conclude demedetomidin gives more sedative and analgesic effect with the same incidence of indesirable actions.
