Background and Objectives: Benign esophageal strictures are relatively common diseases in Vietnam. Most benign esophageal strictures can be successfully treated with endoscopic balloon dilation. The aim of this study is to evaluate efficacy and complications of balloon diation technique for treating benign esophageal strictures in Cho Ray Hospital. Materials and Methods: This is prospective study achieved.at Cho Ray Hospital. The data was analyzied from 77 patients with 94 balloon dilations from 01/01/2011 to 31/12/2011. Results: After procedure, most of patients had improved dysphagia. In the study, common etiologies of esophageal strictures were achalasia (53.2 percent) and anastomotic strictures (42.9 percent)... The complications were bleeding, chest pain were quite mild and spontaneously resolved. Esophageal perforation was in one (1.3 percent) and treated successfully. Conclusion: Balloon dilation for treating benign esophageal strictures is technically effective, safe and feasible.
