Background: Since 1987, Philippe Mouret announced the first laparoscopic cholecystectomy in France. Today, laparoscopic surgery applied in the treatment of biliary tract disease such as laparoscopic cholecystectomy or laparoscopic remove com men bile duct stones has become routine operation at many worldwide surgical centers. Methods: During three years from 8th May 2008 to 8th March 2012, at the Department of Medical University Hospital, Hanoi, there were 358 cases of laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Results: The study group included 120 men (33.5 percent) and 238 women (66.5 percent) with average age of 51.69 + or - 14.41 years old, in which minimum age was 20 years old and maximum one was 89 years old. The laparoscopic cholecystectomy averagely taked 58.2 + or - 20.7 minutes. The shortest operating time was 22 minutes and the longest time was 125 minutes. The rate of conversion in laparoscopic colecystectomy was 2.8 percent. There were seven cases of bleeding during surgery, one case getting common hepatic duct injury, one case getting intraabdominal bleeding had stoped bleeding by laparoscopy. Among 358 patients treated by laparoscopic cholecystectomy, there were two cases getting trocar port bleeding and 6 cases getting trocar port infection. Among 253 (70.7 percent) re-checked cases, the results did not show any complications occurred. Conclusion: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a less invasive one with good treatment results. This method is suitable for all ages as well as medical coordinator. Therefore, it can be said that laparoscopic surgery is the gold standard in the treatment of gallbladder disease.
