Objectives: the transanal one-stage endorectal pul-through operation for Hirschsprung's disease is gaining popularity in many pediatric surgical centers. The aim of this study was to analyse the early and late postoperative results. Material and method: All patients with Hirschsprung's disease, who were surgically treated by transanal one-stage endorectal pull-through operation at Binh Dinh general hospital between May 2005 and October 2011 were included in this study. Preoperative variables were clinical, paraclinical manifestations. Outcome measures included operative time, length of excised colon (cm), timing for postoperative feeding, for using antibiotics, intraoperative or postoperative complications, postoperative enterocolitis, anorectal function. Results: 115 patients with Hirschsprung' s disease had been treated by transanal onestage endorectal pull through operation. Their ages ranged from 13 days to 4 years old.. Operative time were 60 + or - 15minutes. Length of excised colons were 24.62 cm + or - 6.64cm. 111 patients (96.6 percent) were fed 6-12h after operation. Twenty patients (17.3 percent) were used prophylactic antibiotic. The median follow-up period was 24 months. Twenty one patients (7.8 percent) experienced the following complications: anastomic leak (n=l, 0.8 percent), enterocolitis (n= 10, 8.6 percent), mild perineal excoriation (n=6, 5.2 percent), anastomic stricture (n=l, 0.8 percent), increased stool frequency (n= 10, 8.6 percent), recurrent constipation required redo-pullthrough (n=2, 1.6 percent). Increased stool frequency improved with time. Conclusion: Good Results: 106 (92.2 percent)
Fair: 9 (7.8 percent). Both early and late complications of patients with Hirschsprung's disease treated by transanal one-stage endorectal pull- through operation are acceptable. However, long- term follow-up are needed to detect and to treat potential complications or anorectal dysfunctions.
