Aims: 1- To assess the results of endoscopic adrenalin 1/10,000 injection treatment in combination with high dose intravenous rabeprazole (rabeloc) in peptic ulcer bleeding and ulcer healing on day 30
2- To observe adverse effects. Patients and methods: This is a prospective study from 12/2009 to 10/2010. 62 patients, including 37 males and 25 females aging from 20 to 84 with peptic ulcer bleeding, received high dose rabeprazole intraveinously within 72 hours after successful endoscopic treatment with adrenalin 1/10,000. Patients were subsequently given oral rabeprazole 40mg/day within 27 days. Results: Mean hospital days were 4.5. 13 percent of the patients were given blood infusion with an average of 0.5 unit. One patient had recurrent bleeding. No mortality occurred and no surgery was done within 30 days
Ulcer healing rate was 95.2 percent on day 30. Adverse events, mainly headache and nausea, appeared in 40.3 percent of patients. Conclusions: endoscopic treatment in combination with high dose intravenous rabeprazole can reduce peptic ulcer recurrent bleeding. High dose intravenous rabeprazole is safe and leaves mild side effects.
