Results achieved from evaluating the combination abilities (general and specific combination) of the nine inbred maize lines during the time from 2008 to 2010 in the Southern Coastal Central of Vietnam showed that five inbred lines at the fifth generation were identified having very good combination abilities both in general and specific combination. These clones also have very good agronomical characteristics which are suitable to use for development of hybrid advanced lines including 1-22811, III-11514, IV-23316, VII-23148, and BOD2. From experiments, six crossing lines with higher yield (5-16 percent) compared to the control variety (C919) were also identified to be advanced and suitable for planting in the Southern Coastal Central including T2 x I-22811, T2 x III-11514, T2 x IV-23116, III-11514 x IV-23316, IV-23316 x VII-23148, and VII-23148 x BOD2.
