Background: assessment of active trachoma and TT prevalences is necessaty for Trachoma Control planning. Aims: 1. to evaluate active trachoma prevalence in under 10 children and TT prevalence in 40 years and older population. 2. To assess Blindness prevalence and causes in 40 years old and over population in the community. Methodology: cross-sectional descriptive study on 1804 children and 3337 persons of 40 years old and over in 30 randomly chosen clusters in Bac Giang in 3/2011. Results: active trachoma prevalence in children is 0 percent, TT prevalence is 1.79 percent in the population of 40 years old and over, but mainly found in the group of 70 and over (6.51 percent). The coverage rate of TT surgery in the community is 24.3 percent with the successful rate of TT surgery is 78.8 percent. Prevalence of blindness in the population of 40 years old and over is 2.28 percent. Main cause of blindness is still cataract 84.2 percent of the total blind)
other causes are atrophy of the eyeball (2.63 percent), corneal scars (2.63 percent) and trachoma blindness (1.32 percent) and complication of cataract surgery (1.32 percent). Conclusion: to control of Blinding trachoma, promotion of TT surgery, especially in the population less than 70 years old is necessary andfeasible target in some years.
