Located in the North Central region, Thua Thien Hue province is influenced by the hot, dry westerly wind, so drought frequently occurs. Annually, there are two periods of drought, from March to April and from July to August. Each year, there are about five months lacking water in the flat country and one to two months lacking water in the mountainous area. Serious drought often appears together with EI Nino phenomenon. On average, the area of agricultural land affected by drought is 6,746 hectares per year and tends to lessen in recent years.
