Objectives: To evaluate whether an accumulation of clinical risky factors to thromboembolism (CHADS2 and CHADS2-VAS) would correlate with transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiographic parameters in the patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF). Methods: 127 NVAF patients (at the mean age of 64.9 + or - 10.1 years old) and 36 controls (at the mean age of 61.8 + or - 7.1 years old) were assessed by using CHADS2 and CHADS2-VAS score to estimate the thromboembolic risks and examined with transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography. Results: LAA area, LASEC and the severity of aortic atherosclerosis have a positive correlation with CHADS2 and CHADS2-VAS score (in turn r = 0.45, r = 0.5, r = 0.57 and r = 0.42, r = 0.44, r = 0.56
with p 0.001). LAA flow velocity negatively correlates with CHADS2 and CHADS2-VAS score (in turn r
