Using photochemical [2+2] cycloaddition in a reliable route with 8 steps, the compound (IR,4S-4azidomethylcyclobut-2-enyl)methyloxy-tert-butyldi-phenylsilane was synthesized for the first time. This compound can be used as a key intermediate in the synthesis of cyclobutane nucleoside analogues which are potential antiviral and antitumor agents.
